Adopting a Pet

Each year, it’s estimated that more than one million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for a pet. Brass City Rescue Alliance works tirelessly to rescue and re-home animals that have been neglected, abandoned or abused, to save dogs from high-kill shelters and to assist with dogs whose owners can no longer care for them.  Our list of current dogs is available by clicking on the button below.

MakING a Donation

We simply cannot do what we do without the support of the public. Your tax-deductible contribution is used by Brass City Rescue Alliance to fund rescue operations, veterinary care for dogs with immediate medical needs or spay/neuter procedures, assisting our foster families with needed support, purchasing food/toys for dogs housed at the pound to provide a bit of joy while they wait to be adopted and more. We are a non-profit organization operating under the 501(c)3 code of the IRS.  Click on the button below to make a secure donation through PayPal.

What Drives Us

Our Mission

Our goal is to help the animals and citizens that need us.  Our reach is far, wide and we do our best to never refuse aid. Through education, support and life saving, we hope to make a difference in Connecticut.

We aim to get as many dogs adopted as possible via our rescue. We have our own dog shelter and hold weekend adoption events to find forever homes for our pups. We provide veterinary care, behavioral assessments and training to make each animal successful in its new forever home. Though we no longer adopt cats out, we do assist other local rescues in the networking of homeless cats, including trapping and trap-neuter-release.

Top Reasons to Adopt a Pet

You'll Save A Life....

Each year, it’s estimated that more than one million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States. The number of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying them.

Your Home Will Thank You.

Many of the pets from shelters and rescues are already house-trained, which means you’re not only saving a pet’s life, you may be saving your rug. Adopting a mature pet not only gives older animals a second chance, it often means introducing them to your family will be much easier.

Joining The Fight Against Puppy Mills.

Puppy Mills are factory-style breeding facilities that put profit above the welfare of dogs. Animals from puppy mills are housed in shockingly poor conditions with improper medical care, and are often very sick and behaviorally troubled as a result. The moms of these puppies are kept in cages to be bred over and over for years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever joining a family. And after they’re no longer profitable, breeding dogs are simply discarded—either killed, abandoned or sold at auction.

It'll Cost You Less.

Usually when you adopt a pet, the cost of spay/neuter, first vaccinations (and sometimes even microchipping!) is included in the adoption price, which can save you some of the up front costs of adding a new member to your family. Depending on the animal, you may also save on housebreaking and training expenses.

Puppies Are Good For Your Health!

Not only do animals give you unconditional love, but they have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally and physically beneficial to their companions. Caring for a pet can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment and lessen feelings of loneliness. And when you adopt, you can also feel proud about helping an animal in need!

You'll Change An Animal's Whole World.

And get a new best friend out of the deal. Seriously, what could be better than that?

You'll Get A Great Animal.

Animal shelters and rescue groups are brimming with happy, healthy pets just waiting for someone to take them home. Most shelter pets wound up there because of a human problem like a move or a divorce, not because the animals did anything wrong. Many are already house-trained and used to living with families.

Because They Save Us Too...

When you adopt, not only do you save an animal’s life…they save ours too. They make a house a home, and become most loving friend you will ever have.

Adoption Helps More Than Just One Animal...

Overburdened shelters take in millions of stray and abused dogs every year and by adopting an animal, you’re making room for others. Not only are you giving more animals a second chance, but the cost of your adoption goes directly towards helping those shelters better care for the animals they take in!

Get Involved

There are several ways to get involved with Brass City Rescue Alliance.  We can always use volunteers to help us with adoption events, caring for our dogs, cleaning kennels and more.  Dog Fosters are also needed and welcomed.  Finally, we rely on the financial support of the public to do what do – so donations are always appreciated.
